Yami Löfvenberg

Yami Löfvenberg is an established freelance dance and theatre artist with over 21 years’ experience in the art sector.   

Between directing and performance work, Yami mentor, create, and delivers workshops across the UK and Internationally, working with companies and individuals to bridge the gap between theatre and dance.  

A strong leader and trailblazer she challenges participants to explore a new take on theatre, dance, and stories whilst confronting preconceptions, stigmas, stereotypes. 

Her skill of teasing out questions, personality, and finding the why has seen her collaborate with a multitude of diverse artists and organizations throughout her career. 

She also tirelessly works and advocates for a positive betterment for the Hip Hop Dance community and  intersectional female empowerment.  

Using her broad knowledge of Hip-Hop Culture and movement, her work is rooted in storytelling using comedy, characterization, spoken word, and cross-arts and she is not afraid of being outspoken and raw. 

  Underpinning her work are her core values and missions and often highlight subjects such as; racism; social and political structures and equality.

Director; theatre credits include Fierce Flow (Hippodrome Birmingham), Kind of Woman (Camden People’s); Afroabelhas (Roundhouse/British Council/ Tempo Festival (Brazil). 

Assistant Director/Choreographer; theatre credits include Hive City Legacy (Roundhouse, Home, Millennium). 

She is a British Council and Arts Council England recipient, One Dance UK DAD Trailblazer Fellow, Marion North Recipient, and Talawa Make Artist. She was on the creative choreographic team for the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony and is a member of performance collective Hot Brown Honey.  

She has a collaborative company called Passion & Purpose that focuses on dance management, creative projects, and artist progression.
