Head of LX & Facilites

The Head of Electrics & Facilities will provide leadership on all day-to-day aspects of electrical infrastructure & facilities infrastructure within the theatre relating to both the production and the building. Working closely with the Technical & Buildings Manager, you will ensure there is an efficient, cost-effective and robust maintenance plan in place, meeting all operational and compliance needs from an electrical& facilities perspective. 

You will liaise with the production’s electrical department, working closely with the resident production & show management to ensure smooth day-to-day running of the venue.

The role

The Barbican Music team is looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and experienced Technical Manager (Systems) to lead the health & safety requirements of the department, ensuring the safe operation and legal compliance for all music and business events and guaranteeing safe working conditions for staff, audiences and artists. By employing a thorough and knowledgeable approach to risk management, the Technical Manager will oversee all staff training, inductions and wellbeing provision, as well as producing robust risk assessments and associated documentation for events and technical operations, including rehearsals and offsite productions.

 

In conjunction with the Technical Management Team and Technical Supervisors, the Technical Manager (Systems) will manage the year-round maintenance program for equipment and stage systems in the Concert Hall, Foyer Spaces and all associated technical venues, utilising a knowledge of regulatory requirements to oversee the internal and external schedule for the department’s technical equipment and infrastructure.

 

The Technical Manager (Systems) will motivate and develop the technical team by supporting professional and personal development through application of good management practice and procedures and introduce best practice for safety and wellbeing across the department. They will work closely with the Technical Management Team and Production Managers as well as management from across the Centre to deliver these aims.

 

The successful applicant will be self-motivated and will have technical management and line-management experience in a Concert Hall or similar arts, or business event, venue.

 

Essential requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, risk management and safe working practices, along with a recognised, industry-approved certification (i.e. NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar.)

  • An excellent knowledge of the technical presentation of live music (classical and contemporary) and commercial events, including a familiarity with the physical make-up of modern auditoria, to degree level or equivalent professional experience.

  • A high level of competence in two or more of the following disciplines: theatrical stage automation, lighting, sound, video and film technology, and arts health and safety; preferably in a multi-disciplinary arts venue or a similar working environment.

  • Good experience in managing and motivating multi-skilled team members.

 

You must be able to demonstrate:        

  • A track record of stakeholder management and the ability to communicate clearly with varied audiences, and to translate technical and critical safety information into language accessible to non-technical staff, contractors, and freelancers.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Experience of managing and developing staff, including setting performance and objective measurements, and negotiating change.

  • Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across boundaries.

JWP are looking for an experienced Head of Wigs, Hair and Makeup to join The Devil Wears Prada at The Dominion Theatre, London with an immediate start The ideal candidate will have previous experience on a large scale West End musical, great communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities / necessary skills for the role include:

  • Working closely with the Wigs Supervisor and Designer to manage the handover from the design to the running wigs, hair, and makeup requirements for the productions.

  • Lead the Wigs, Hair and Makeup department (including casual staff and deps), including line management, scheduling, recording of hours and training.  

  • Taking responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of all wigs and equipment. 

  • Ordering and keeping stock of any equipment or materials required.  

  • Compile and keep updated cue sheets and other relevant show paperwork including the show running bible. 

  • The ability to effectively communicate within the team and across the production and be a supportive manager for their team with a collaborative and motivational style.  

  • Overseeing the smooth running of the Department for all performances.

  • Working calmly in a fast-paced environment with creatives, performers and backstage teams with discretion, empathy and professionalism.

  • Undertake relevant training courses from time to time as required.

  • Candidates should be trained in styling Afro-textured hair and have good knowledge and understanding of protective hairstyles, as well as having experience of barbering.
