We are now seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our Technical team and play a key role in delivering high-quality, safe, and ambitious technical support across our performances, events, and projects.

About the Role

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Senior Technician will lead on the technical planning and delivery of productions and events at Brixton House. You will work hands-on across lighting, sound, video, and show control, while also supervising teams, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the smooth running of our technical operations.

The role is worked across a flexible rota and includes evening and weekend work, reflecting the nature of the live performance environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical planning and delivery of productions, events, tours, and projects

  • Act as Duty Technician and lead technician on productions and events

  • Operate and programme lighting consoles, digital sound desks, and show control systems (including QLab)

  • Lead get-ins, fit-ups, get-outs, and vehicle loading/unloading

  • Supervise and lead freelance technicians and technical teams

  • Prepare, install, test, operate, and maintain technical equipment

  • Produce technical plans, plots, and schedules for events and productions

  • Attend production meetings, planning meetings, and rehearsals as required

  • Lead on equipment maintenance and contribute to departmental maintenance planning

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with health and safety policies

  • Work confidently at height and safely operate access and lifting equipment

  • Play an active role in the wider life and culture of Brixton House

About You

Essential

  • Substantial experience working in a performance venue or the creative/live events industry

  • Proven experience operating and programming lighting consoles and digital sound desks

  • Experience with show control software, particularly QLab

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and supervising teams

  • Excellent technical problem-solving and fault-finding abilities

  • Confidence working at height and using access equipment

  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices in the entertainment industry

  • Willingness to work unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Computer literate and highly organised

Desirable

  • Formal qualification in performance or theatre technology

  • Experience with sound editing software

  • Experience in set construction and/or CAD

  • Experience using lifting machinery in performance venues

Assistant Stage Manager

Responsible to: 

Director of Technical and Production and Director of Producing and  

Administration 

Working closely with: 

Stage Management, Production Management, Acting Company, Creative Team,  Musicians and all production and technical departments 

Contract: 

Full-Time, fixed-term at Regent’s Park from 15 June – 20 September 2026. Then  on tour from 21 September 2026 – June 2027. 

Basic Working Hours: 

43 hours per week across 6 days (Monday–Saturday). Some Sunday working  as well as regular weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required. 

Work Base: 

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Stage Door, Open Air Theatre, London, NW1  4NU. 

Salary: 

At Regent’s park £660 per week, paid weekly via PAYE. Negotiable with Lloyd  Webber Harrison Musicals for the tour.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to take up the post of Scenic Construction Lecturer.

You will be responsible for teaching Stage and Scenic Construction, involving set building working with a range of materials and processes, the design and construction of scenic items, the use of specialist equipment and technology, and workshop management. You will supervise students undertaking production and project work and overseeing safe working practices. You will have extensive industry experience that demonstrates continued high standing in the profession. You will also contribute to wider teaching, tutoring and assessment activities in the department. You will have experience of working in higher education settings; a good understanding of the needs of students in a complex learning environment; and the ability to represent your discipline in the public domain through professional/industry sector engagement, consultancy, and/or research (which could include R&D in new processes and equipment).

The Scenic Construction Lecturer works predominantly in the Design Realisation Pathway, which includes Prop-Making, Scenic Art, and Scenic Construction. The Production and Design Department is responsible for BA Production Arts, BA Performance Design and MA Collaborative Theatre Production and Design; a series of short courses and outreach activities; and extensive production activity in the School’s programme of public-facing performances and events. We work closely on a range of productions (including operas, dramas, site-specific and digital works) with other departments at Guildhall and (through Guildhall Production Studios) a range of external and commercial partners. Our students learn through workshop-based activities, study and intensive production and practice. They have opportunities to extend their knowledge by working on pathways other than their major area of study, and to develop their own interests and creative agency through independent projects. The Department is values-led and promotes diversity and inclusivity along with sustainable practices.

The role

The Barbican Music department is looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and experienced Technical Supervisor to motivate and inspire the technical team to deliver world-class events in the Concert Hall and associated areas, onsite and offsite.

Working within the Technical Team, the Technical Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of the Technicians and the set up and operation of sound, lighting and audio-visual equipment, ensuring a consistently high standard of technical support. You’ll work alongside the Technical and Production Managers in assisting the planning of events, ensuring the best quality of service for our clients, whilst implementing health and safety and safe working practices. You’ll be expected to line-manage, supervise and delegate whilst creating a positive and constructive atmosphere within the Music team, fulfilling the aspirations of our diverse and dynamic music programme. 

This role requires the post holder to work closely and collaboratively with the Barbican Centre’s Business Events team, the Creative Collaboration team, and all other Barbican departments and to represent the Music department from time to time by attending internal management and external production meetings.

The post holder will be expected to multi-task, manage and develop team members, and work under pressure; excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Weekend and evening work is required on occasions for this role.

Role requirements

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and motivate a team in a multi-disciplinary venue at a supervisory level on artistic and commercial events.

  • A high level of technical knowledge and competence in sound, with a relevant recognised qualification or equivalent experience.

  • An understanding of lighting and video principles.

  • A knowledge of the music industry, both classical and contemporary, and a thorough understanding of all the creative processes of music-making.

  • Excellent knowledge of current technical equipment and an ability to select and set up sound, LX and AV equipment as requested by the Technical and Production Managers.

  • Experience of line management and the ability to supervise and motivate technical team members, including permanent staff, freelancers and casuals.

  • Experience of liaising on a regular basis with artists, associates, commercial business clients, creative practitioners, and producers.

  • A good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, risk assessments and safe working practices and ability to identify and resolve Health and Safety issues.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across boundaries to achieve positive outcomes.

For this production, much of the set design will be complete  and you will be given  context and creative insight into the design journey, as well as have a hand in bringing the elements to life.  The costume design will evolve and develop as characters are defined. Ideally, candidates will have familiarity with this design process. 

We are open to candidates who have established a Set and Costume design focus, and also welcome Set Designers with a strong interest in Costume and Costume Designers with a strong interest in Set.
