Barbican’s boundary-pushing Music programme cuts across all genres, including work by contemporary artists, experimental collaborations and visits from the world’s best orchestras and soloists. Alongside their resident, associate and international ensembles and other partners, they provide some of the finest musical experiences the capital has to offer, from Baroque operas to cutting-edge electronic music. At the heart of a multi-arts centre, they produce concerts which go beyond the standard live music experience, presenting music which hovers at the edges of classification.

 

The Barbican Concert Hall is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join the Music Department as a Technician with a specialism in AV, with a good understanding of electrical principles, working with data networks, and knowledge and experience in in the operation of vison mixers, switchers, signal convertors and projectors. The post holder will be working alongside a team of colleagues in the delivery of high-level technical support to all music & commercial events in the Barbican Concert Hall, Foyers, and Commercial Venues. You will be comfortable working in a team environment, expressing a can-do attitude, even under challenging circumstances.

 

This position requires a high level of experience and competence in AV, with a general understanding of other technical production disciplines, such as lighting, and sound equipment for a wide range of music, commercial and streamed events.  Alternatively, if you have experience in AV and are eager to learn and would like to develop further additional skills in these other areas of technical support then we can provide this training for you. 

 

This is an irregular shift-based role spread over 7 days that includes weekend and evening work.

The Venue Duty Manager is a key role with our visitor team – it provides day-to-day duty management of the venue, events, and activities, contributes to creating an outstanding and inclusive visitor experience at Aviva Studios, and leads a diverse team on the ground that includes Supervisors, Hosts and Volunteers.

You’ll coordinate with a range of other teams including our food and drink, security and cleaning partners – as well as internal teams like Ticketing, Event Management and Producing. The Duty Management team are the operational leads in the venue – you’ll be proactive in ensuring visitor safety, responding to incidents and escalating issues as needed. Working across a rota – you’ll cover both building duty management shifts, as well as shifts managing the visitor-facing aspects of specific events and functions.

In a venue like Aviva Studios, no two events are the same, so our Duty Manager team also plays a role in planning for flexible and adaptable visitor experience. Behind the scenes you’ll also contribute to our management, rota-ing and communications with our host team.

The key responsibilities for the Venue Duty Manager include;

  • Fulfil the role of Duty Manager in the operational structure of Aviva Studios, working with Supervisors, and other teams in the day-to-day delivery of outstanding and inclusive customer service to all visitors

  • Play a leading delivery and decision-making role in the day-to-day operation of Aviva Studios, this may include leading evacuations, completing risk assessments, managing crowd-flow, responding to first aid incidents, monitoring and maintaining the safety and visitors, colleagues and artworks, as well as incident response and management

  • Oversee complex visitor operations – often including multiple events of scale taking place simultaneously

  • Manage the visitor-facing teams at Aviva Studios. Depending on the day and type of event this may include directly briefing and managing hosts and volunteers, or leading a team who in turn manage hosts and volunteers

  • Oversight and on the day management of key visitor-facing functions such as: retail, reception, security, cloakroom, ticket scanning, etc

  • Work with Producers and Event Managers to scope and plan operational needs for commercial and creative programming and events

  • Work with the wider Duty Management team to embed a positive and proactive team culture

  • Play a key role in developing, training and equipping Supervisors, Hosts and Volunteers to contribute to the visitor experience offer at Aviva Studios

  • Contribute to our management, rota-ing and communications with our host team

  • Champion Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility, ensuring Aviva Studios provides a consistent experience to all visitors

The person specification for the Venue Duty Manager are;

ESSENTIAL

  • Ability to motivate and leads teams of people in the delivery of outstanding experiences/services

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate with a broad range of people from different backgrounds

  • Demonstrable experience of taking a collaborative approach to their work

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, always retaining an open and approachable manner

  • Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and practical implementation of policies and procedures

  • First Aid Qualification or willingness to undertake a First Aid Qualification

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

  • Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds

  • Willing to get take relevant statutory checks eg DBS (Factory International can support with processing and payment)

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience of working within an arts/cultural venue or a customer focused organisation

  • Understanding/knowledge of access needs and previous experience of working with access customers

  • Previous experience of leading teams of people

  • Good IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office programs and the ability to pick up systems quickly

  • Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent

CATALYST | Participation Trainee

About the CATALYST Traineeship
Creating equitable access to the industry is a core Donmar value and we want to ensure that the next generation of leading arts administrators is diverse. CATALYST is a professional development programme for those who have been historically underrepresented at the Donmar and within the sector. Through this 12-month programme, we create bespoke experiences for talent from the Global Majority, welcoming a range of voices and skills. No previous experience of working in theatre is required but a demonstrated desire to learn, and an interest in arts administration and participation is essential.

About the role:

The Participation Trainee role at the Donmar Warehouse is a hands-on opportunity to gain insight and experience within the theatre industry by supporting the Donmar’s work with schools and community groups. As part of the Participation team, the Trainee will contribute to the planning and delivery of a wide range of creative projects, including the Local Performance Programme, Take the Stage, My Future, Pathways and the Schools’ Tour. They will assist with logistics, administration, and communication, working closely with teachers, young people, freelance theatre-makers, and community partners.


Day-to-day responsibilities will include maintaining project schedules, organising meetings and events, managing departmental inboxes, and supporting the smooth running of Participation projects. A key part of the role will be organising the Local Performance Programme, acting as the main point of contact for schools and holding this project as their own to practice and develop core skills. The Participation Trainee will also contribute to planning processes, and support the creation of content for marketing and documentation purposes.


By the end of the Traineeship, the Participation Trainee will have built a strong foundation in communication, project management, collaboration, and arts administration, equipping them for a vibrant future career in creative engagement or arts education.

 
*This role is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in arts administration. The role does not require facilitation skills or include facilitation opportunities.

Terms: Fixed-term, 12-month contract ideally starting in October 2025

Salary: £25,643 per annum

JWP are looking for an experienced Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair & Makeup to join The Devil Wears Prada at The Dominion Theatre, London from the start of October. The ideal candidate will have previous experience on a large scale West End musical, great communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities / necessary skills for the role include:

  • Supporting the Head of Wigs in assisting with running the department.

  • Candidates will require relevant hands-on professional experience in theatre, the ability to work under pressure and effectively within a team, good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong organisational and time management qualities to ensure that the production runs efficiently and smoothly. 

  • Ensuring that all wigs, make up and equipment is maintained to a high standard. 

  • Maintaining, setting up and dressing wigs for performances. 

  • Assist with compiling and keeping up to date cue sheets and other relevant show paperwork including the wigs bible. 

  • Deputising for the Head of Wigs in their absence and being familiar with all plots and tracks within the department. 

  • Attend any rehearsals or calls and participate in staff/team meetings as and when required. 

  • Experience in London is preferable.
