Kanoko Shimizu
Kanoko is a Japanese stage manager, who started her career into stage management in 2017 when she moved to the UK to be re-trained at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. After completing BA (Hons) Stage Management and Technical Theatre in 2020 during the global pandemic, she continued into MA training there so that she can get a visa which let her work in the UK as a freelance stage manager. Kanoko is passionate about working backstage for live performing arts, and aspiring to become DSM and Production Manager.

Production translator for X-Games Chiba 2023 and 2022 (ZOZO Marine Stadium, Chiba, Japan) and Deputy Venue Technology Manager for Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cover ASM on Nutcracker (English National Ballet), DSM on La Cenerentola (British Youth Opera), Placement on Berberian Sound Studio (Donmar Warehouse), DSM on Motortown, Rage, SM on Arcadia, The Gondoliers (RWCMD). Kanoko also worked as Assistant Production Manager at RWCMD for several productions.
Prior to coming to the UK, Kanoko worked in the music industry as a manager/agent for an indie rock band, believing it was a way to go into backstage jobs. She also worked as a sales assistant in an IT venture company for three years in Tokyo.
