Denisha Parmenter

Denisha is a set and costume designer for theatre, specialising in the digital aspects, such as video and projection design, with great skills in software like SketchUp, AutoCAD, Modul8, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

‘Rae Smith is one of many theatre designers that has influenced a lot of my ideas in previous projects. I am in awe of her past work and clever use of technology, especially in Wonder.land, and War Horse. This is also strong inspiration for my minimalistic “black and white” design style.’

‘I started to go to the theatre from a very young age watching shows such as Sweet Charity, The Lion King, Shrek the Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 12 Angry Men, and Cats. I remember these shows, due to the beautiful sets, costume and lighting designs. This is where I originally became interested in theatre. It would get to the stage that every show or film I watched, I would be focusing more on the set than simply just enjoying the production as a whole! To think that I could be the person in control of bringing an entire narrative together on stage or on camera excited me and I wanted to take whatever path was necessary to get me there.’

Combining her previous creative and performing arts skills into one, Denisha recently graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Practice: Design for the Stage. She is very excited to gain more design experience and have the opportunity to collaborate with other talented creatives within the industry.
